Akshay Radia (He/Him)
Company Artist
Akshay is a versatile dancer, choreographer, and DJ who explores movement and music, drawing inspiration from a range of Eastern and Western disciplines.
He began his dance journey as a young freestyler and b-boy, developing his initial style primarily through battling. He built a strong foundation in music and developed a thirst for improvisation through his extensive training in Hindustani classical music as a vocalist for nine years. Akshay’s passion for fusion stems from his experience as a first-generation Indian-American, which exposed him to the growing influence of Eastern art forms alongside the evolving culture of Hip Hop in the San Francisco Bay Area.
With over a decade of professional experience performing with the Mona Khan Company, Akshay has trained in a variety of styles including modern and traditional Bollywood, contemporary, jazz, hip hop, and Acro. He has also choreographed and danced for UCSD’s premier Bollywood Fusion dance team, Zor, from 2011 to 2015.
His performance highlights include competing among the Top 48 at America’s Got Talent 2010. In addition, he led his team to place 1st at Bollywood America 2012, a national collegiate Bollywood fusion competition, and was awarded Mr. Bollywood America 2012 for best male lead. He also performed in various other dance productions including Awaaz, an intimate dance showcase addressing social issues, and Breathless, a viral one-take collaborative dance production. In addition, Akshay worked as a lead actor in Fade Away, a cinematic music video created by C3D, and has assisted in directing several artistic dance videos.
Currently Akshay is excited to join Ishami, a company that values inclusivity, innovation, and cultural exchange, and to collaborate with other talented artists to explore and amplify the diverse voices and stories of the South Asian diaspora through the performing arts.
