Divya Anbalagan (She/Her)

Company Artist

Divya's dance training and education has spanned a couple of decades and continues to evolve, with her early years spent studying Bharatanatyam. Over the years, she performed fusion choreography to Bollywood [Hindi] and Kollywood [Tamil] cinematic music. The journey reached a pivotal moment when in undergraduate college, she joined her dance team which did, what at the time was called, "Western Dance". It's been a good few years of education to understand what we were doing was actually deeply rooted in hip-hop music and movement, and fusing that with South Indian dances like kutthu and Bharatanatyam. Today, all that variety and exposure to different styles has led her to find that love for choreography, concept and movement inspired by hip-hop, south-Indian and Bollywood dance.

She is also a company dancer in the Mona Khan Company, where she trains across styles (mainly Bollywood, semi-classical, jazz) and performs at showcases. More recently, she has been on a teaching journey because it is sheer joy to be able to share her love for dance with the world! Ultimately, her core dance-why is to create impactful pieces that invite discussion, to educate herself and humbly integrate Indian elements to hip-hop choreography. When she isn't dancing, she can be found putting her electrical engineering degree to use in a high voltage lab, making sustainable energy products at Tesla.
